Ale Carrillo-Estrada

April 12 – May 10, 2019
Opening: April 12, 6-9 PM

Ale Carrillo-Estrada, in her first solo exhibition, examines bridges, ladders, letters and labor. Her careful consideration of these illustrates her personal and communal experiences as a native of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. Carillo-Estrada tells us her story and poetically illuminates the humanity of life on the frontera.

Ladders hold layers of symbolism. They characterize in-betweeness and they provide hope among the darkest of issues. Metaphorically, our inner ladders are taken with us at all times to help us climb to the top and stretch out to grasp our dreams. Some refugees actually carry one across the arid desert to literally climb over the border to chase the “American Dream.”
